Ryu and Koichi are brothers who have been separated by divorce: stoic, grounded 12-year-old Koichi lives dutifully in coastal Kagoshima with his mother and grandparents, while 10-year-old tearaway Ryu is living it up with his deadbeat musician dad in urban Kyushu. LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED
LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED is a warm, funny, heartfelt meditation on the birth pangs of starting a new life. Set at a picture-perfect summer wedding in Sorrento, the film stars Pierce Brosnan as Philip, a lonely, middle-aged English widower and estranged single father living in Denmark, and Trine Dyrholm as Ida, a Danish hairdresser recuperating from chemotherapy, who has just learned that her husband is leaving her for a woman half his age from his accounts department. The fates of these two bruised souls intertwine as they embark for Italy to attend the wedding of his son, Patrick, to her daughter, Astrid. The bumpy path towards the union of their children, and the clashes and faux pas of their wedding guests, force Philip and Ida to re evaluate all their notions of family, love and happiness.
Filmed on beautiful locations in Italy and Denmark, LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED is an uplifting tale of love, loss, absurdity and humour that will leave only the hardest heart untouched. It is a film about the simple yet profound pains and joys of moving on - and forward - with your life.
LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED reunites the Academy AwardŽ and Golden GlobeŽ winning team of director Susanne Bier and writer Anders Thomas Jensen for the fifth time, following Open Hearts (2002), Brothers (2004), Academy AwardŽ nominee After the Wedding (2007) and Golden GlobeŽ and Academy AwardŽ winner In A Better World (2010).
